February Read List
You can read If You Will Have Me on Amazon, Apple Books & KOBO ✨
I only finished four books in February because I was swamped—amongst other things—with publishing and promoting my Novella ‘If You Will Have Me’ which is currently available on Amazon, Apple Books & KOBO.
If You Will Have Me by Mojire Allen-Ajayi
genre: contemporary romance fiction
themes: healing, faith, romance
plot: Faith, desperately in need of a vacation agrees to go on a blind date with the promise of her mom approving her vacation (because she’s also her boss). She goes on this date, and he turns out to be a pastor. A fact that triggers a painful past.
thoughts: best thing I’ve read in a long time tbh. It had all the elements I crave in a good contemporary romance. It exceeded my expectations, the writing was great, and I think it deserves a Pultizer (hehe, go read it for yourself).
Mad About You by Mhairi McFarlane
genre: contemporary fiction
themes: #metoo, friendships, coming of age
plot: Harriet is a wedding photographer who is hired to shoot a wedding that ends up with a runaway groom. Her long-term boyfriend suddenly proposes to her and it triggers all kinds of emotions. Now she has to make decisions quickly.
thoughts: I can’t even write a proper synopsis because I think this is one of those books you read without knowing anything, it makes it more interesting. Mhairi McFarlane is fast becoming one of my favourite fiction writers and I won’t be surprised if her books keep showing up in my read every month!
The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center
genre: romantic comedy
themes: romance, screenplay, family
plot: Emma is an aspiring big-time screenwriter but due to family situations is unable to pursue her dreams, until, her ex-boyfriend gets her a gig with a famous screenwriter (who turns out to be her biggest role model) and she has to help him write a romcom because he doesn’t believe in love.
thoughts: I kinda knew what to expect reading this book, but it exceeded my expectations! After my novella, it was the second most intriguing thing I read. The epilogue and author’s note of this book will always have my heart. I have many quotes from this book in my February dump.
One Star Romance by Laura Hankin
genre: romantic comedy (as advertised, but honestly it was more of a literary fiction)
themes: friendship, coming of age, chasing dreams, sprinkles of romance.
plot: Natalie is a struggling writer. Her best friend, Gabrielle gets engaged and she’s the maid of honour. She has to walk down the aisle with Rob, the best man who gave her book a one-star rating.
thoughts: Great writing! It was just so different from what I expected. The romance was my least favourite thing about the book, but I enjoyed the entire story. I think I finished it in a day because Laura Hankin knows how to hold your attention.
P.s. I don’t know how people read twelve books in a month. I guess I’m just not serious.
Happy March,
XoXo
